I'm excited to also announce that I've recently struck a deal with my college newspaper The Almagest to create a weekly comic. Luckily for me they're a newspaper that has tons of space and usually not enough content to fill that space, so they've given me the luxury of having tons of space to do something that has more substance than your typical three panel comic strip. This time around I'm going to try and really push myself to tell a story, so expect to have full blown comic pages posted on this here blog ;)

I'm really glad I found that website, for not only did it give me an opportunity to learn how to draw on paper (when I was still posting on this blog, I was doing NOTHING BUT digital art, and as a fledgling artist that course wasn't exactly increasing my drawing skills), but it also fostered a desire to pursue a career in animation, which I'm currently doing (view updated profile for more details).

And now that I've decided to embark on this path, I've now decided that I should dust the cobwebs of this old blog and start posting drawings and illustrations on this thread again. I'm actually planning on doing something special for this blog so that I can make daily (or at least semi-daily) posts, perhaps something along the lines of what this guy is doing:

Here's the latest installment of Neville and Company that I did for the school newspaper. What's exciting about it is that our newspaper has FINALLY gotten the priviledges to print in color, obviously giving me more creative liberties :)

I have to confess that I've really gotten back into drawing these kinds of cartoons again, and now that I've significantly improved my skill in art I'm considering turning Neville & Co. into a full blown webcomic with an entire cast of characters and everything.

Let me know what you guys think of this idea, creating a full blown webcomic will be a serious committment, so if you guys are up for it, so will I!

All of them were made start on the computer, since I recently discovered that digitally produced cartoons translated better in newsprint than drawing them on paper and then scanning them in. Drawings I've Been Working On Since My Last Post

Okay..... I probably have alotta 'splainin' to do don't I?

You see, the reason that I haven't posted a strip in SO long is because that I've spent that time trying to develope my skills as an artist. I know that I've probably dragged the loyal followers of this blog along on a never ending expectation for a new post, and for that I am deeply sorry. It's just that....even though I think I've come a long way from where I started...there's still many, many things about art that I don't quite understand yet, which is why that I've come to the decision that I'm going to spend this summer honing my skills. Some of you may have noticed that I've joined a few art community blogs like SFG and Monday Artday, and they've been really good opportunities to study some professionals so that I could possibly apply their techniques to what I make. The things above are just what the title suggests, and I didn't bother to put them in any kind of order in case your wondering.

Okay, now back to the subject of my comic strip. Some of you probably thought that I abandoned Neville and Company for good, and I'm here to tell you that there is NO truth to that statement at all. Rest asured, I WILL return to Neville and Company once summer vacation comes to a close. I'm also very excited about next year because me and a few of my friends signed up for Game Design and Animation courses for our Senior year at high school, and does this put a Neville and Company animated short some time in the near future? Hopefully so! :)

I'm also going to return to posting my artwork on this website for insites and tips from all you artists currently in the field. And again, I'm sorry for my apparent procrastination in posting on this blog, so sit tight and prepare to have your socks blown off! >:)

Even More Realism

Well, after a few days of waiting for results, I recieved a call from the proprietors of Cormier's Cajun Restraunt telling me that I won their contest. This is a picture of Mr. Cormier(left) and me(right) holding my winning design. I won a 50$ cash prize, including a 25$ gift certificate to their restraunt, but I'm not so much excited over winning the money as I am seeing something I made on a t-shirt that I hope several people will buy. The t-shirts will be distributed to customers during their annual annivesary dinner, which I've been invited to attend. However, at this party I'll have to kiss the head of a roasted pig as is tradition with their restraunt, which will be photographed and proudly displayed in their restraunt (which I'm excited about also since I've never tasted roasted pig before and I've heard it's really good!).

Anyhoo, I have to tell you something about why I haven't made a new strip in awhile. It's because I've had this REALLY frustrating bout with this company over the ordering of a product that I made, which has ultimately resulted in little customer service after waiting THREE EXTREMELY LONG WEEKS!!! I finally decided that I'm going to order the product off of Amazon.com, a website that has never failed me in delivering my purchased items. But it turns out that I'll have to wait another FIVE DAYS for the order to come, which I pray will end once I finally have my producted in my deprived clutches.

So please hang in their because I've come up with several good ideas for strips that I hope to ultimately make into reality.

I'm excited over recent events that are taking place in my town.

Cormier's, a local craw-fish restraunt in Monroe, is celebrating its 20th year in bussiness by holding a contest for artists at my school. The contest asks for a piece of artwork that's supposed to be themed as "Kiss the Pig" because of their locally famous pork sandwhiches.

The artwork is going to be put on a T-shirt and then given to the winner for free plus a 50$ cash prize and a coupon to their restraunt.

This is my admission for the contest. Let me know if you like it, and cross your fingers so hard that you cut off circulation to your fingers and end up having to get them amputated (no, I'm only kidding, but keep your fingers crossed none-the-less!)

Phew! As you've might've guessed, this strip took awhile to make, and I really gave my graphics tablet a good work-out. I also had to post the strip in segments, so I hope you don't mind. I applied some new tools and techniques to the artwork, and happy to say that the results are very good!

It's amazing to me how far I've come in making these cartoons in such a short amount of time. Although there's still ALOT for me to learn and I'm still very humbled by all you talented bozos out there, I think I'm getting closer to the goals that I want to achieve.

The Little Glass Horsie

This week I had to right a turn paper that explored the themes of Tennessee William's dynamic play "The Glass Managerie" for English. I decided to draw the glass unicorn from the play on my computer and paste it on to my essay.

Well anyway, I'm working on a great idea for a new strip that I should be able to bring to you guys by the end of the week. I'm not leaking any details, but just to give you a jist about it, think Ranj and Dragon Ball Z.

Solaris the Destroyer

I had came up with a really cool idea for a super villian that was bugging me all day until I finally decided to draw it on my computer.

His name is Stanely Tussman. He was once a world renowned thief until he managed to pull his biggest hiest of all by raiding the military fortress of Area 51. It wasn't money or precious gems that he stole, but a powerful piece of alien technology that he reengineered into a powerglove. This glove, adjusted to the right setting, had the ability to progress matter into it's volatile fourth state (plasma) at which he could then bend to his will. With his new found power he became the dreaded super villian Solaris, and continues to be the bane of all human existan till this very day.

WHEW! Here's Edition number 32

After several trys, I managed to make a new strip using my new Wacom graphics tablet. The application is a major improvement from Gimpshop in my opinion, and shall probably improve my abilities even further.

However, I'm still limited to posting cartoons in BMP format (trust me, I've tryed posting in PNG and it wouldn't let me) so if any you guys know the secret on how to break free from this, please don't hesitate to lay it on me.

And on a side note, I'm thinking of joining the blog Sugar Frosted Goodness. I'm not sure they'd accept my work, but I'd hope they will none the less.

So anyway, thanks for sticking through this week and having to stand the hideous abominations that I put on my blog, and stay tuned for even more strips to come.

Here's another piece of art that I made in class today. I've discovered that the badder a monster's skin condition is, the more frightening his appearance.

I know that this isn't a new strip, but today I'm going to download the cool drawing software that I talked about and tommorrow my Wacom Graphics Tablet arrives. Again, I apologize for taking so long to make a new strip. My week hasn't exactly allowed me much computer time. Plus, I'm beginning to cope with the fact that the harder I work to make something look good with limited materials, the longer it takes to make.

But hopefully that's going to change soon. My birthday is next week, and I've asked for some money that'll buy me some cool software and a graphics tablet. That way I'll be able to make somthing great without it taking an anagonizingly long time.

But until then, I'm not going to able to make strips as frequently as I used to like I did by making black and white ones. But fear not! I'm not going to give up, and I shall continue to put forth material as long as I have the means to do so!

Edition number 17, my English teacher taught me this cool trick when I post my cartoons:

When I scan my comics onto Microsoft Paint, I can then paste them onto Microsoft Word, enhance the comic using the awesome picture tool bar, and then re-paste onto Paint and save.

This really looks better don'tcha think? :)

Edition number 14, I've studied the artwork of the comic strip Maakies and have applied some of it to my artwork. I think the contrast helps pronounce the lines alot better....
